Cloud Forest

Bellavista Cloud Forest is only 50km from Quito but so incredibly different. The Ecuadorian Cloud Forest is cool and humid and characterised by frequent low cloud. This results in a high degree of biodiversity, particularly epiphytic plants and a large number of endemic bird species.

This collection of images shows the nature of the forest with close ups of some of the delightful and beautiful birds, including the spectacular Cock of the Rock. The Eco Lodge is now part of a nation wide private reserve system and offers accomodation with stunning views and hummingbirds around every corner. Raphael provided walks into the forest where he shared his in depth knowledge of the diversity of the wildlife of the cloud forest.
